A Toronto schoolteacher has been assigned a homework assignment after sending a message about a student wearing a mask.
In a statement shared with Global News, the Toronto School Board (TDSB) said the teacher shared a message that “does not represent the guidelines” offered by the school board or the province.
Last week, the board sent a message to students and families asking them to wear masks inside to limit the spread of COVID-19 while the sixth wave in Ontario continues.
The TDSB said it was a “personal decision” for students to decide whether or not to wear a mask.

When Ontario announced it would stop requiring school masks in March, the TDSB called for an extension. The province refused.

The TDSB did not disclose the content of the message sent to the students by the teacher. “As a result of this announcement, the staff member was sent homework pending the outcome of an investigation,” TDSB said.
