A naval plane crashed in Mojave, killing a pilot, the military said

TRONA, Calif. (KABC) – A U.S. Navy fighter jet crashed in the Mojave Desert on Friday afternoon, killing the pilot, military officials say.

The F / A-18E Super Hornet involved in the crash is based at the Lemoore Naval Air Station. He crashed at about 2.30 pm near the Throne, in the district of San Bernardino.

The pilot, whose name was not released, was killed.

Naval security forces responded to the scene, as did firefighters based at China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station.

The cause of the crash remains to be clarified.
