Led by the Brantford Police Department, with the assistance of Haldimand Norfolk County OPP and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Project Carbon Copy launched in October 2021 and focuses on breaking up an organized crime group distributing large amounts of fentanyl from southern Ontario to northern Ontario.
On April 14, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Department received court permission to search five separate homes and a motor vehicle.
Shortly after midnight on April 14, 2022, officers from Sault Ste. Marie Police Service initiated the suspension of the rental car when it entered the city of Sault Ste. Marie. Police arrested the four passengers in the motor vehicle and a subsequent search revealed twelve ounces of alleged fentanyl worth $ 168,000 hidden in the vehicle.
As a result of the traffic stop in Sault Ste. Marie, the following individuals have been charged with possession of fentanyl for trafficking, in violation of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:
- Skyler Beale, 26, of Brantford, Ont.
- Jamal Gomez, 19, of Brantford, Ont.
- Alexis Rosebroo, 21, from St. George, Ontario.
- Drew Pine, 23, of Brantford, Ont.
Moments after the arrest of the four people listed above, the police involved involved simultaneously carrying out five search warrants.
At a residence in Caledonia, located on Arnold Marshall Drive, Haldimand Norfolk OPP employees found approximately $ 45,000 in Canadian currency hidden in the wall of the residence. As a result of the investigation and subsequent search, 26-year-old Edison Beale was charged with possession of fentanyl for trafficking, trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime. The Brantford Police Department also searched a Darling Street apartment and found fentanyl cooking material.
A third Project Carbon Copy residence, located on Pearl Street, Brantford, was also searched by Brantford Police Department officials.
Members of Sault Ste. The Marie Police Service carried out a search warrant for a Queen Street West apartment in Sault Ste Marie. Police found quantities of alleged cocaine, fentanyl, crystalline methamphetamine and two cans of oleoresin capsicum (OC spray) at the scene.

- Possession of controlled substance x4

- Violation of probation
Officers from Sault Ste. Marie Police Service also searched a neighboring apartment on Queen Street West, where officers found an amount of alleged crack cocaine, fentanyl and crystalline methamphetamine at the residence.

As a result of the project, police seized $ 205,000 worth of illegal substances and charged ten people with drug-related crimes.
Project Carbon Copy will help minimize the threat to our communities posed by the proliferation of controlled substances, including synthetic opioids. By disrupting criminal networks, our goal is to help our communities by reducing violence around the trade in illicit substances.
The success of this operation may be due to the exceptional collaboration between police partners and agencies, the Ontario Criminal Intelligence Service, the Brantford Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Salt Saint-Marie Police Service.
In support of the search warrants and arrests of April 14, 2022, the Brantford Police Department would like to recognize Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Haldimand Norfolk OPP for their assistance.
Quotes: “Project Carbon Copy is an excellent example of the significant interagency cooperation needed to combat drug trafficking. He illustrates that crime in Brantford is evolving – it is a lucrative distribution center. Tenants who attract legitimate business are also considered criminal enterprises. By disrupting criminal networks, our goal is to help our community by not only removing drugs from our streets, but also by reducing the violence surrounding the Ontario illicit trade. “Robert A. Davis, Chief of Police, Brantford Police Department.”
