Headcannon, known for his work on Sonic Mania along with the mobile versions of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming Sonic Origins.

The compilation, due out June 23, will include classic core games with various added bits and beans, including a widescreen Anniversary Mode. Headcannon confirmed via Twitter that he had worked with SEGA to recreate Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles for the collection, thus completing the “remastering” of the main titles.

Headcannon is proud to announce that we are working with @Sega to recreate Sonic 3 & Knuckles for their upcoming #SonicOrigins collection!

This concludes the official “Remastering” of the main classics and marks our fourth time out with #SonictheHedgehog!

This will undoubtedly be good news for fans of the franchise, as the participation of Headcannon in the series was largely welcomed. In our review of Sonic Mania, we called the game “a real comeback in mascot form” by giving it a 9/10.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 remains one of the most famous recordings in the long series, so to see that it receives the “remastered” treatment from Headcannon is, to put it mildly, a wonderful surprise.
