A driver who allegedly fled the scene of a collision in downtown Toronto last week that killed a female pedestrian has been arrested and charged along with three other men.
Toronto police announced arrests Wednesday in the April 14 clash near Spadina Avenue and King Street West.
Police say a 30-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle traveling south on Spadina Boulevard at high speed.
The driver of the car fled and left the woman in danger of death, police said. The woman was taken to hospital, where she died two days later.
Police said on Monday they found the suspect with the help of the public.
The next day, police arrested three men – 41-year-old Sinesa Bogojevic, 44-year-old Milorad Nikolic and 37-year-old Zaharias Bilik. All three are accused of failing to stop at the scene of an accident that caused death, public mischief and obstructed police.
Later that day, police said the alleged driver of the vehicle, identified as 42-year-old Ertug Direk, turned himself in to investigators.
Direk is accused of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, public mischief and obstruction of the police.
All four men appeared in court Wednesday morning.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and there may be additional arrests in connection with the incident.
“Several other countries are believed to have helped the alleged driver, Ertug Direk, after the collision,” police said.
