Deebo Samuel may be the next well-known wide receiver on the go.

Samuel told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington that he had asked the San Francisco 49ers to exchange him amid delays in negotiations to extend the contract.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said Samuel did not want to be involved in the talks, largely because money was not the “root” of his problem. Pro Bowler reportedly resented the way it was used in the 49ers offense.

Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams have already withdrawn money this off-season after being exchanged for new destinations. The Las Vegas Raiders withdrew from the first and second rounds of Green Bay for Adams and gave him a five-year contract worth 141.3 million dollars.

The Miami Dolphins have given up five draft picks, including 2022 in the first and second rounds, to acquire Hill and sign him with a four-year $ 120 million extension.

These deals have completely blown up the broad market for receivers that has so far been set by DeAndre Hopkins and its average annual value of $ 27.3 million. It is not clear how much Samuel will look for in a new contract, but it is almost certain that he saw green the second the ink dried for Adams and Hill.

In terms of his use, Samuel was one of the most uniquely used players in the NFL last season. He regularly lined up in the backfield and in the wide out, recording 77 receptions for 1405 yards in and carrying the ball an additional 59 times to 365 yards. He also scored a combined 14 touchdowns.

It is possible that the wear and tear of Samuel’s pseudo-back position is not something he has signed up for. Running backs usually have a much shorter shelf life than NFL receivers, and these extra hits add up.

However, if the 49ers decide to pay Samuel as the dynamic offensive threat he has proven to be, things are likely to calm down.
