Russian missiles hit Kyiv for the first time in more than a month, after President Putin promised that Moscow would step up attacks on long-range arms supplies to Ukraine from the United States.
One person was injured when Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers fired cruise missiles at railway infrastructure sites on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital from the Caspian Sea, more than 1,000 miles south. Black smoke rises over the eastern Darnytskyi and Dnieper districts of Kyiv.
There were no reports of deaths, but the attack, the first on Kyiv since late April, was a reminder that Moscow could still attack the city at will.
