Last week, Schmidt was again at high altitude, watching Mount Logan and the St. Ilias chain. This time, however, he was on a plane, looking down on some familiar places and remembering.
The ’92 expedition forged lifelong friendships. Schmid has kept in touch with Gould, Lorilla and many others over the years. However, some of the team are no more.
“It was pretty amazing to go back and just remember all the little bits and pieces and the people who were lost and what it took to bring this team together,” Schmid said, describing his flight last week.
“I just can’t emphasize what an amazing team we had.
