IOS 16 lock screen: How to customize iPhone

The iOS 16 title update is the ability to create custom lock screens. From widgets, fonts, photos, new wallpapers and more, follow for a practical look at how to create a custom iOS 16 iPhone lock screen.

iOS 16 arrived with the first beta of the developers, which launched immediately after Apple’s main note on WWDC. The next major version of iPhone software includes a set of handy features for messaging, notifications, photos, mail, Safari and more.

What will probably attract the most attention, however, is the new custom iOS 16 screen lock feature. This is the biggest customization support we’ve seen from Apple with the iPhone, based on all the work it has done. with iOS 14 when it debuted gadgets plus some of its coquettish faces on the Apple Watch.

IOS 16 lock screen: How to customize iPhone

  1. After installing iOS 16, press and hold on the lock screen
  2. If you use old wallpaper, you will need to create a new one to make a custom lock screen
  3. Tap the blue + icon in the lower right corner
  4. Choose wallpaper from the best categories or swipe below to see all the options
  5. Tap the + icon below the time to select widgets
    • Recommended widgets are at the top, more choices by categories below
  6. Tap the time to customize the font and color
  7. Tap the date to add the widget on top
    • Elections include calendar, clock, fitness, reminders, stock and time

Here is a practical look at the process:

If you tap the “Customize” button on an old wallpaper, you’ll be prompted to “Add a new one” to continue.

Photos can look really sharp with the new lock screen, and you can even set it to rotate through your photos with Photo Shuffle wallpaper.

You can add up to 4 small widgets, 2 small and 1 medium or 2 medium widgets in the lower space of the lock screen.

The quickest way to add widgets is to tap them, but you can drag and drop them if you want to be more specific with the layout.

Tap the time to customize its font and color. Swipe from right to left to reveal more color options, as well as the full color palette for a completely customized hue.

You can also add 1 widget to the top section for day / date, tap it to make a selection.

Tap the three-dot icon in the lower-right corner to activate perspective zoom, and tap Finish in the upper-right corner when you’re done.

Back on the main lock screen customization page, you can also tap Focus at the bottom to associate a specific with that particular lock screen.

How do lock screen widgets work?

Once you place widgets on the lock screen, you will receive live data presented each time you look. However, like widgets on the home screen, they are not directly interactive, so when you touch them, you will be taken to the appropriate application (Calendar, Time, Reminders, etc.).

How many iOS 16 lock screens can you make?

You can tap Personalize at any time to edit the lock screen, or tap the blue + icon to create a new one.

It’s not clear exactly how many lock screens you can make, but so far I’ve created 21 😅.

How to switch lock screen

Like Apple Watch faces, once you have multiple lock screens, it’s easy to switch between them by long pressing the lock screen and dragging to select a different one.

How to delete custom lock screens

To remove custom lock screens, long press on one and select “Delete Wallpaper” at the bottom.

Locked screens and battery life?

The new weather and astronomy wallpapers in iOS 16 are really impressive, but keep in mind that they will require access to the location (which can be updated as often as every 15 minutes), which can affect the battery life of your iPhone .
