Some Toronto residents have been urged to keep expired parking permits attached to their windshields as the city is dealing with “supply chain problems” that have affected its ability to send new stickers.
Several images have been circulating on social media showing the length that some drivers go to avoid a parking ticket amid delays, including posting a receipt for their permit to their expired sticker.
In a statement to CTV News Toronto on Tuesday, the city acknowledged that “the processing and printing of permits has been affected by supply chain problems”, but said the problem had already been resolved and drivers needed to get their new permits soon. .
“The city cleared the accumulated permit applications and the last batch was sent earlier today,” the statement said. “The police parking control department will provide a grace period while residents switch from one permit sticker to another. Residents who have an expired license attached to their windshield will not receive a ticket. “
The city says the delays encountered by the third-party provider, which it uses for its street parking permit stickers, have affected about 15,000 drivers.
It says that the last batch of about 1,200 exclusive stickers was sent today.
The city said anyone with a sticker that expired on May 31 and still received a ticket could contact permit.parking@toronto.ca for ticket information.
Street parking permits are usually renewed every six or 12 months.
