One was killed and at least eight were injured when a car crashed into a crowd

The incident happened near where Anis Amri, a failed Tunisian asylum seeker with Islamist ties, hijacked a truck, killed the driver and then drove him to a crowded Christmas market.

The attack in December 2016 killed 12 people and injured dozens more.

There have been several vehicle accidents in the country that have collided with large groups of people.

During the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, a German crashed his car into crowds gathered to watch a match at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, injuring about 20 people. The driver was later admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

In April 2018, a German crashed his van into people sitting in front of a restaurant in the city of Münster, killing five before shooting himself. Investigators later said he had mental health problems.
