Frederiksen and Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez arrived in Kyiv early Thursday, according to footage posted on Sanchez’s Twitter account.

Frederiksen’s office said talks with Zelensky would focus on further support for Ukrainians and the prosecution of “war crimes and human rights violations.”

Russia calls its action a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine and eradicate what it calls dangerous nationalists. The West and Kyiv have accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of unprovoked aggressive war.

A number of European leaders traveled to Ukraine after the Russian invasion to show support for its president and people, especially after Russia withdrew its troops from northern Ukraine.
