Alberta’s chief medical officer says the province has already registered four cases of monkeypox.
Dr Dinah Hinshaw says all four cases involve adults who are now isolating themselves and helping health professionals track their close contacts.
Hinshaw says the risk of the disease in Alberta remains low.
She says the disease is transmitted through close physical contact.
This includes many sexual partners, although the disease is not sexually transmitted.
Hinshaw added that the number of COVID-19 patients had fallen by 20% in the past two weeks.
However, another 42 Alberts died of the infection between May 17 and May 23.
