Russia bans 61 Canadians from entering the country, calls Ottawa’s actions “Russophobic” – National

A group of 61 Canadians will be “banned indefinitely” from entering the Russian Federation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

These banned persons include senior government officials, active and retired military, academics and leading media figures.

Banned Canadians include Canadian Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Adviser Dan Costello, Toronto Mayor John Torrey, Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford, Alberta Prime Minister Jason Kenny, Bank of Canada Chairman Typh McLeham and President and CEO of CBC / Radio Canada Catherine Tate.

In a statement, the Russian ministry said the move came in response to sanctions imposed on Russia by the federal government.

The ministry also said that Russia’s “stop list” would continue to expand in the near future.

“The Russian side will continue the principle line, which implies a resolute resistance to Russophobic actions by official Ottawa, including the supply of weapons and assistance in sending mercenaries to Ukraine,” the ministry said in a statement.

“In this regard, we warn Canadian curators of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and national battalions of responsibility for war crimes committed by their wards. The perpetrators will definitely be punished. “
