A stray deer is forced to buy bicycles to catch a ferry

The STAG group, stranded in Amsterdam after the cancellation of flights, was forced to buy bicycles so they could catch a ferry home.

The future groom Alex Sisan from Worthing and 13 of his friends had to board an EasyJet flight to Gatwick on Saturday.

But the flight was canceled, leaving the group stranded in the Netherlands after their two-day trip.

After deciding that the best route home was to take a train to Calais and take a ferry to Dover, the men were told that pedestrians were not allowed, but bicycles were.

So Alex and his friends spent the afternoon buying bicycles in Brussels and Lille – stops during their trip – from shops and the Facebook market.

All but one of the bachelorette parties managed to hold a cycle for just three hours at a total cost of £ 1,300.

The last member of the group managed to persuade a young couple to let him in their car for the crossing.

Alex, 29, said he could not believe they had arrived in Dover just 12 hours after the flight was canceled.

“We had the craziest day, but we just wanted to go home,” he said.

“It didn’t seem like fun at the time, but I had two of the best days of my life with 13 best friends, and that just added to it.

“Looking back, the experience was as stressful as a movie or a Top Gear challenge.

“But it was such a fun and brilliant story that I will tell at the wedding and, I hope, to my children – and then to their children.

Alex said that after their flight was canceled at Schiphol Airport, their unsuccessful attempts to rent cars and buy Eurostar tickets meant that the ferry was the only viable option.

The party boarded a train to Calais, which passed through Brussels and Lille.

Alex, who is getting married next month, said: “We had to spend two hours running around Lille to get our bikes.

“I was on the Facebook market for two hours, with the location of the pin set in Lille, trying to arrange the purchase of some of these bikes. They ranged from 40 to 220 euros.
