Los Angeles County again requires passengers to disguise themselves when on board public transportation or in indoor transportation centers, such as airports.
Los Angeles County Public Health officials issued a new health order for COVID-19 effective Friday, which will make masks mandatory on all public transportation, including buses, trains, taxis and shared travel services.

Health officials cite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s claim that wearing masks on public transport is essential to stopping the spread of COVID-19.
The return of the mandate for transport masks comes after the Los Angeles County Transport Authority announced on Tuesday that the masks are highly recommended on bus and rail lines, but are not mandatory.

The California Department of Health has also issued updated guidelines that strongly urge residents across the state to wear masks on public transportation, but remove the requirements.

The development comes days after a federal judge in Florida revoked the Biden administration’s mandate for airplane masks and other forms of public transportation. The US Department of Justice is working to appeal the judge’s order at the request of the CDC. The agency says the appeal is necessary to protect its “public health authority”.

The CDC also said it continued to encourage people to wear masks in “all indoor public transport locations.”
