A 39-year-old man died after colliding with a truck parked on the A14 in the middle of Suffolk.

The road to the west between Howley and Woolpit was closed for several hours after the signal of the accident around 1.40 am on Tuesday.

A Suffolk police spokesman said a white Audi A3 and a truck were involved in the crash.

Ambulance and fire crews were also present, and the driver of the Audi was taken to Adenbrook Hospital in Cambridge, where he was seriously injured.

However, a police spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that he later died at a hospital.

The A14 to the west was closed by police at the Beacon Hill junction with the A140 before reopening around 9:30 a.m. later that morning.

The man’s death was the latest death reported on Suffolk’s roads in the past month.

On May 30, two men died in a crash of three A11 vehicles between Elveden and Barton Mills, near Mildenhall.

Just days later, on June 1, a 70-year-old woman was involved in a crash between a truck, a Land Rover Defender and a Porsche.

She died after being flown to Adenbrook Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

And on Sunday morning, a motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after an A1141 crash between Monks Ellie and Brent Ellie in the Baberg district.

Speaking earlier this year, Inspector Gary Miller of the Suffolk Police Road and Armed Police Team urged drivers to be mindful of other road users to prevent further accidents.

He said: “All road users must take into account their own safety as well as the safety of others.”

Anyone with information on the Woolpit A14 incident has been asked to contact the road team and armed police at Bury St Edmunds Police Station, citing reference number 36646/22.
