Brett O’Grady: The body of the missing Shopify CEO has been found

The body of a Shopify CEO who went missing seven months ago has been found in the eastern part of the city.

Ottawa police said human remains were found in the water in the area of Sir George Etienne Cartier Boulevard and CH Airport-Marina Road on Saturday afternoon. The remains were found by the Department of Marines, Diving and Trails.

Police say the forensic identification process confirmed on Wednesday that the remains were of 35-year-old Brett O’Grady, who has been missing since last October.

Investigators have concluded that no rough play was suspected in O’Grady’s death.

O’Grady was reported missing in October and was last seen in the Avro Circle area near Aviation Parkway. His family said O’Grady went cycling on October 14 while working from home and did not pick up his son from kindergarten that afternoon. O’Grady’s wallet and cell phone were left in the house.

His bicycle was found by a neighbor near the family home.

Emergency workers spent days searching the area of Sir George-Etienne Cartier Boulevard, Polaris Avenue, the Ottawa River and Aviation Parkway, but there was no sign of O’Grady.

O’Grady’s family said police stopped the search in the area four days after his disappearance because they believe he is no longer in the area, but an investigator is still monitoring the information.

O’Grady was Treasure and Risk Manager at Shopify.

His family offered him a $ 10,000 reward for advice leading to Brett’s discovery. Shopify has provided funding for a search and rescue expert from Alberta to come to Ottawa to help with the search.
