343 Industries has unveiled its planned 2022 roadmap for Halo Infinite and it includes a launch window at the end of August for the long-awaited co-operative on the campaign network.
All the details were revealed by the head of Halo Infinite’s creative department, Joseph Staten at Halo Waypoint, and although subject to change, they give a good idea of what Halo Infinite fans can expect for the rest of the year. 343 also notes that the timeframe will be “extended as we announce longer-term initiatives” and that “the roadmap is an evolving document”.
The roadmap begins with a focus on Season 2 of the Lone Wolves, which runs from May 3 to November 7. We already knew that season 2 would start with a new Battle Pass of 100 levels, two new cards in Catalyst (Arena) and Breaker (BTB) and three new game modes in King of the Hill, Land Grab and Last Spartan Standing.
What was a little clearer were some of the events and new features that will appear during Lone Wolves. These include a cooperative network in the campaign in late August and Forge Open Beta in September. These launch windows are targets and can be changed, but this puts the progress of their development in a clearer picture.
As for Forge, 343 decided to abandon “a large-scale official flight program and go straight to the open beta.” Once released, it will not disappear and will continue to evolve and grow over time.
Season 2 will also include a new Fracture mode in Entrenched – starting its first week on May 24 – and two narrative events in Interference from May 3 to May 16 and Alpha Pack from July 19 to August 1. These “multiplayer storytelling events” will “put your Spartan at the center of an evolving seasonal storyline.”
343 also gave a brief look at what fans can expect from the currently untitled Season 3, which starts on November 8. It will bring with it a new Battle Pass, maps, modes, sandstone elements, narrative events, a fracture event and a split screen of the co-op campaign
The lack of consistent content was also addressed, with 343 saying they were well aware that they needed to do more, but would not do so at the cost of their team’s health.
“We know we need to deliver more content and more features faster,” writes 343. [a] zero priority [of team health] means that sometimes we have to slow down to stay healthy and move faster later. But we are also aggressively looking for ways to accelerate. “
In conclusion, 343 said it will release “Drop Pods” with quality of life adjustments as they are ready – most likely once a month – and that it will do a deep dive in more for Season 2 and the roadmap on April 27 in 13:00 PT / 16: 00 ET / 21: 00 BST.
