Google is launching new pop-up cookies with a “select all” option in Europe

Google is changing the pop-up cookies in Google Search and YouTube in Europe. A new cookie banner is already being introduced, and the main change it introduces is the inclusion of a “Cancel All” button to prevent all unnecessary cookies from being set and non-essential data to be collected.

The moment you first visit a Google-owned website, you’ll see a file before completing the cookie banner. Banner It tells you about the use of cookies in real estate. The classic logo has two buttons, one for personalizing data collection and one I agree.

Users who want to reduce the use of cookies and data collection must select the “Customize” option to change the default settings. The “I agree” option gives Google full control over the collection process.

The customization page shows several options, including YouTube history, search customization, or customizing ads, which can be included or excluded on the site.

A new cookie banner is already being launched in Europe, making it easier for users to block all but the main cookies.

Google notes in the announcement that it will be available on Google Search and YouTube in Europe for visitors who are not signed in to a Google Account at the time or in incognito mode. The launch has started in France and Google plans to soon deliver the updated cookie banner to all EEA Member States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland (Google did not provide details).

The cookie layer provides details on the use of cookies and data collection when users choose to decline all or accept all buttons.

Accordingly, Google will use a basic set of cookies and data, regardless of the user’s choice. The data is used to “deliver and maintain Google services”, track disruptions, protect against spam, fraud and abuse, and “measure audience interaction and site statistics”.

The additional set of cookies and data is used only if the user selects “accept all” or keeps certain options on the customization page enabled. Users who select the new Cancel All button will no longer collect these items:

  • Development and improvement of new services.
  • Presentation and measurement of ad performance.
  • Display custom content based on your settings.
  • Show personalized ads based on your settings.

closing remarks

Some companies and organizations make it difficult for users to refuse all unnecessary cookies. Entering the “Reject all” option prominently displayed as the “I accept all” button is a step in the right direction.

Internet users have a number of options for handling cookies and collecting data. They can disable third-party cookies in their browsers, regularly clear cookies and use accessories to bypass and automatically decline cookie requests, or use various services such as Brave Search instead of Google search, Invidious instead of Youtube. Extensions such as privacy redirects automatically help with this.

Now you: How do you handle cookie and data sets on the Internet?
