Ten Hag is targeting Robbie McCrory to solve a rapidly evolving problem with the team

Manchester United want to attract Rangers goalkeeper Robbie McCrory to strengthen their ranks between the sticks, according to a report.

Against the background of United’s control, goalkeeping is an area in which they – at least internally – have no worries. Despite the poor form of David de Gea in recent seasons, he retained his role of first choice.

And that will not change next season after a campaign in which he was one of the club’s most prominent players. However, the shape of De Gea has caused the domino effect to be lower in the order of the bite.

Man United’s second-choice stopper Dean Henderson is disappointed with his ongoing struggles for playing time. That is why the 25-year-old footballer is in talks to move to Nottingham Forest.

Behind him, Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder wants veteran stopper Tom Heaton to help promote them. As a result, United suddenly pushed a new goalkeeper on their transfer priority list.

And according to The Sun, Old Trafford boss Eric ten Haag turned his attention to Rangers star McCrory to fill the gap.

The 24-year-old is a regular national of Scotland under 21, but won a senior call-up for the last matches of the League of Nations.

However, McCrory remained on the bench, as he did for most of the season with the Rangers. In fact, he was in the squad for every game from the Rangers until the Europa League final, but he didn’t play a minute.

As he enters the final year of his contract, Rangers can sell him so as not to lose him for free next summer.

Their goalkeepers are secure, with John McLaughlin taking over from Alan McGregor before next season. McGregor, 40, has a transfer interest from the United Arab Emirates.

The Sun adds that McCrory has interest from both Scotland and England, with United looking for him.

McCrory could suffer a similar fate

United will need a new reserve goalkeeper if Henderson and Heaton leave.

However, McCrory could face the same fate as the previous two if he moves to Old Trafford.

De Gea rediscovered his best form last season and despite the club’s problems with conceding goals, the situation would undoubtedly have been worse without the Spaniard.

De Gea will want to impress Ten Hague and consolidate his number one status at Man United with the new manager.

McCrory may like moving to Old Trafford, but in the end he may not get as much playing time as he wants.
