He described the incident as a “puppet of the first degree”, then blamed former President Trump for the January 6 uprising in the capital.

Colbert accused reporters covering the story of apologizing for talking about something other than the Jan. 6 hearings, and said drawing the equivalent of the rebels storming the Capitol on Jan. 6 was “a shameful and grotesque insult to the memory of anyone who died.” “

He said it “indecently belittles the service and courage shown by Capitol police on this terrible day.” He joked that there may have been a huge conspiracy by his officials to overthrow the government with a rubber Rottweiler, a reference to the Triumph the Insult Comic Dog doll.

Officials were arrested after U.S. Capitol police responded to a riot call at the Longworth House office building around 8:30 p.m.

“Respondents observed seven people, unaccompanied and without congressional credentials, in a corridor on the sixth floor,” a police statement said. “The building was closed to visitors and these individuals were identified as part of a group that was directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day.

Capitol police say the individuals have been charged with illegal entry. “This is an active criminal investigation and may lead to additional criminal charges after consultation with the US Attorney,” the USCP added.

Earlier in the day, they interviewed committee members on Jan. 6, including Representative Adam Schiff, D-California, Representative Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla, and Representative Jake Auchinklos, D-Mass.
