Yankees fans throw rubbish at outside Guardians players after a victory

Saturday afternoon was a pleasant time for the Yankees. Not so much for the Yankees fans.

Spectators in the right-hand stands littered the warning track with rubbish and empty beer cans thrown at Gardens right-hander Oscar Mercado after Gleiber Torres hit Yankees Stadium. One projectile even hit a judge trying to settle the situation.

The ugly scene led to Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, along with other Yankees, taking a 5-4 break from the victory to try to calm things down.

“Brutal,” Guardians Center player Miles Straw told reporters. “The worst fan base on the planet.”

The tension began after Isaiah Kiner-Falefa hit a double to the left to equalize in the ninth inning. Left fielder Stephen Quann suffered an injury as he hit the wall of the game. Straw climbed the left wall of the field to face a fan after this game.

“Obviously there is no place to throw things on the field,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters. “Obviously, we certainly don’t want to put anyone in danger. I love the intensity, but I can’t throw things on the field. “

“That can’t happen,” Kiner-Falefa said. “I love the fans, I love the atmosphere, but we win with class.”

Gardens manager Terry Francona also weighed in on what happened on the field.

Miles stood up for his teammate. “The kid is bleeding there, they’re checking for a concussion,” Francona told Bally Sports Cleveland. “I just think the emotions are probably a little out of control. However, I don’t think people can throw things at our players on the field. That will never be right. “

The scene seems to have calmed down relatively quickly.

The return victory with 5-4 was the second in a row for the Yankees.
