Rob Gronkowski retired before the 2019 season, but returned in 2020 to follow Tom Brady to the Buccaneers. Maybe the tight end is back, given that he is only 33, but Gronkowski announced on Tuesday that he is retiring.

He wrote a long post on Instagram saying goodbye.

“In college, I was asked to write about a dream job opportunity that I wanted to pursue and where the location would be,” Gronkowski wrote. “Every time I had to write about my future, no matter what, I chose to be a professional footballer. For this task, however, we had to choose the location. So I wrote that I want to play in Tampa for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for many reasons, sunny weather was number 1. I completely forgot to write this report until two years ago, when I had the opportunity to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And let me tell you, the trip to Tampa over the last two years has blown away what I originally wrote about in college, a long time ago. And for that I want to thank the whole first-class organization Buccaneers for the amazing trip, my confidence to come back to play and help build a champion team.

“Now I will return to my retirement home, I will leave football again with my head held high, knowing that I gave him everything I had, good or bad, every time I went out on the field. The friendships and connections I have made will last forever and I appreciate each of my teammates and coaches for giving everything they had. From retirement, back to football and winning another championship and now back to retirement, thank you all. Fans of Buccaneers, Krewe, without you guys, none of this is possible, you all wore it every game, thank you for everything you do. Cheers for what’s next, maybe sailing. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!

Gronkowski had a fun off-season, which will continue throughout the season, unless his good friend Brady manages to attract him back. The Bucs were optimistic throughout the off-season that Gronkowski would return, but they chose Cade Otton of Washington and Ko Kift of Minnesota to go with Cam Bright.

Gronkowski has earned base salaries of $ 9.25 million and $ 8 million with the team over the past two seasons. It also reached $ 1 million in incentives last year. It is not known whether the parties even talked about money before Gronkowski made his decision.

Gronkowski caught 55 passes for 802 yards with six touchdowns in 2021, playing in 12 games. In his career, he has 621 receptions for 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns.

If that’s all, Gronkowski is sure to enter the Professional Football Hall of Fame in the first vote after a mandatory five-year waiting period.
