Arrest of Elnaz Haytamiri in Richmond Hill weeks before her abduction

One of the two suspects who allegedly attacked a woman in Richmond Hill weeks before she was abducted has been arrested while the other remains at large.

York’s regional police announced on Thursday the arrest of 23-year-old Riyasat Singh from Brampton in connection with the attack on December 20, 2021, in the underground garage of King William Crescent, near Yonge Street and Bantry Avenue.

Police said they received a call about a woman who was attacked and hit with a frying pan. A concerned citizen managed to intervene, police said, and the suspects fled in a car.

He was found within hours of the attack and was later found to have been stolen in Toronto.

The victim, 37-year-old Elnaz Haytamiri, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of their investigation, police were able to identify two suspects and arrested Singh in Brampton on Wednesday.

He faces attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of property acquired through crime over $ 5,000 and mischief below $ 5,000.

Police say the other suspect, identified as 23-year-old Harshdip Biner, is wanted across Canada. He is wanted for attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of property acquired through a crime over $ 5,000 and mischief under $ 5,000.

Police believe the two suspects are either involved in Haytamiri’s disappearance or can identify the culprits.

“Our officers continue to work closely with Ontario police to investigate the ongoing investigation into the abduction of Elnaz Haytamiri,” the York Regional Police said.

Haytamiri has been missing since Jan. 12, when police believe she was abducted from her home on Trailwood Place in Wasaga Beach.

According to Ontario police, who are leading the abduction investigation, three black men dressed in police equipment stormed Haitimiri’s home and took her away.

The suspects fled with Haytamiri in a white Lexus RX sports car from 2016-2022.

The OPP held a press conference earlier this week, renewing its call for information on the incident.

“At this point, despite calls for information about the vehicle from the abduction of Haytamiri or about anyone involved in the two incidents, there is no information to provide either a motive or a justification for these crimes,” Det said. Insp. This was said by Martin Graham at a virtual press conference on Tuesday morning.

Graham added that police had not received a ransom demand.

Haytamiri’s mother, Fariba, who lives in Iran, is also asking the public to help police find her daughter.

“As a mother, I ask you to guide us and tell us everything you know,” she said, translated into English in a video released during the press conference.

“Please, please help us. We live a desperate life. ”
