European Union leaders agreed on Thursday to make Ukraine an official candidate to join the bloc, opening the door to possible membership in the coming years.
The decision was made by EU leaders at a summit in Brussels and fulfills one of the biggest demands of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to European countries. It also aims to send a resounding message of support for Kyiv to the Kremlin.
