The hacker’s tools of an Italian company were used to spy on Apple Inc (AAPL.O) and Android smartphones in Italy and Kazakhstan, Google reports. Check the details here.
In a shocking development, it was revealed that your iPhone and Android phones are at risk. According to the information, a tool has been developed for spying on personal messages and contacts of the target devices. Google’s Alphabet Inc said in a report that the hacking tools of an Italian company were used to spy on Apple Inc and Android smartphones in Italy and Kazakhstan. According to the report, the Milan-based RCS Lab, whose website claims that European law enforcement agencies are customers, has developed tools to spy on personal messages and contacts on target devices. However, Google said it had taken steps to protect users of its Android operating system and warned them about spyware.
“These providers allow the spread of dangerous hacking tools and arm governments that would not be able to develop these capabilities internally,” Google said. According to a Reuters report, commenting on the problem, an Apple spokesman said that the company had taken away all known accounts and certificates associated with this hacking campaign. RCS Lab said its products and services comply with European rules and help law enforcement investigate crimes.

Reuters was further informed by email: “RCS Lab staff is not exposed or involved in any activities carried out by the relevant customers.” RCS Lab also said it condemned any misuse of its products.
It can be known that the global spyware industry for governments is growing, with more and more companies developing law enforcement interception tools. Anti-surveillance activists accuse them of helping governments, which in some cases use such tools to fight human rights and civil rights, a Reuters report said.

According to the report, the industry came under the spotlight when the Israeli surveillance firm NSO’s Pegasus spyware was found in recent years to be used by many governments to spy on journalists, activists and dissidents.
Although not as hidden as Pegasus, the RCS Lab tool can still be used to read messages and view passwords, said Bill Marchak, a security researcher at Citizen Lab. “This shows that although these devices are ubiquitous, there is still a long way to go to protect them from these powerful attacks,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters.
