The search for two missing men and their plane was officially stopped earlier this afternoon.
The decision to suspend the search was made by the head of search, based in Belleville, in agreement with JRCC Trenton. The Canadian Air Navigation and Maritime Search Guide has given them the direction to make the decision.
Richard Goff, commander of the Sault Air Task Force, says that given the survival patterns, they have decided to stop the search after repeatedly covering all areas with a high probability of search.
“We’ve exhausted all traces now,” Goff said. “We searched the area until it was completed, but found nothing. If there was a new clue, this could probably trigger further research. But at the moment we are handing it over to the OPP as a case of missing persons. “
A helicopter was sent this morning to check out some interesting targets, but nothing was found that marked the final search in what turned out to be a 10-day mission.
The search and rescue kept in touch with the relatives of the two missing men throughout the process and extended their thoughts to the families who have to go through this difficult time.
“We have been in constant contact with families since the beginning of the search, and they are understandably upset,” Goff said. “They have supported our efforts and I think they are grateful to see how much we have invested in this search over the last week and a half. The search team continues to think about families, and our thoughts and prayers are with them. “
