The Chez Camille restaurant in Cap-Pelé, NB, burned down early Sunday.
The RCMP received a call around 3:30 a.m. AT about the fire, said Capt. Rene Blanchard.
After firefighters arrived on the scene, the restaurant was engulfed in flames.
Authorities say the fire is suspicious and criminal.
The Cap-Pelé / Beaubassin Est Chamber of Commerce said the incident was another tragedy in the community, which saw many smokers burned in fires that authorities considered suspicious.
Authorities say it is too early to say whether the incidents were related.
“It’s not the first time there’s been a fire in the community … it’s been about three times. But we’ve been very concerned about this whole situation over the last few months,” said Anthony Hazard, the chamber’s executive director.
He said about 10 employees would be affected by the burning of the building.
The restaurant was already open for the 2022 season.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, the RCMP and fire department were on site.
The RCMP asks anyone with information on these fires to contact them at 506-533-5151. People can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
