GLANDAL, Arizona (3TV / CBS 5) “Glendale police say the domestic violence call turned into a long-running confrontation and ended in a shooting involving an officer in which the suspect was dead and a police officer was injured Thursday morning.” Police say the initial call was around 2 a.m. near 59th and Olive Avenue.
According to Glendale Police Chief Chris Briggs, the call turned into a barricade situation with an armed suspect. In a Glendale police tweet, SWAT teams tried to negotiate with the suspect for several hours. Briggs says the suspect then shot the officer and a member of the SWAT team retaliated by shooting and killing the suspect. The policeman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Briggs says the officer is expected to fully recover.
“This is the second scene in which an officer was shot today. “I want to remind everyone of the Phoenix officer who underwent surgery today, and please keep Phoenix, Chief Williams, the police department and this officer and her family in their hearts,” Briggs said. “These things should not happen. The schism, the lawlessness must not happen. We should not talk about these things, and certainly not about two in one day. We can all do better. ”
Police have not identified the suspects. The investigation continues.
A Phoenix police officer was shot dead near Cave Creek and Beardsley on Thursday afternoon. The employee was taken to the emergency room and the attacker is on the move.
