Eight bodies were found on Saturday on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and appear to be those of eight men apparently abducted from a Caribbean resort.
Yucatan prosecutors said the bodies were probably those of men reportedly abducted in the quiet beach town of Kskalak.
Xcalak, sometimes spelled Xcalac – the spelling used by prosecutors – is located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Caribbean coast, near Belize.
At least seven men, possibly eight, were reported abducted Friday from a ranch in Xcalak.
The bodies were found by a farmer in a field in a Yucatan village just above the Quintana Roo border. Yucatan prosecutors said they did not appear to have been killed where they were found and were probably simply dumped there.
Authorities did not identify the abducted men, but local media reported that they were workers on a coastal ranch.
So far, Xcalak has been largely spared the violence, which has affected other beach towns in Quintana Roux. However, it is known that in the past, packages of drugs were washed ashore there.
