Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y) said on Sunday that conservative U.S. Supreme Court judges who “mislead” Americans during their hearings to confirm their support for Rowe’s repeal of Wade should be subjected to impeachment and face the “consequences” of a false oath.
Occasio-Cortez told NBC moderator Chuck Todd that the Supreme Court had “dramatically exceeded its authority” and created a “crisis of legitimacy” that President Biden had to deal with.
“If we allow Supreme Court nominees to lie under oath and secure lifelong appointments in the country’s highest court and then issue – without reason, if you read these opinions – decisions that deeply undermine the human civil rights of the majority of Americans, we have to deal with that, “he said.
“There must be consequences for such a profound destabilizing action and a hostile takeover of our democratic institutions,” she added.
The Supreme Court on Friday overturned the 1973 Rowe v. Wade precedent, giving states the opportunity to decide abortion laws for the first time in about 50 years.

Conservative judges Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsach, Brett Cavanaugh and Amy Connie Barrett – all of whom voted by a majority to repeal Rowe – have been criticized for avoiding the issue of reversing the precedent during their respective confirmation hearings, or say that they will not support the annulment case.
On Sunday, Ocasio-Cortes said lying under oath was an impeachment crime and there must be consequences to prevent it from happening again.
“What makes it particularly dangerous is that it sends a clear signal to all future nominees that they can now lie to duly elected members of the United States Senate to get confirmation from the Supreme Court,” she said.
