On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Manitulin Anishnaabe Joint Chiefs of Staff (UCCM) was summoned to Wiingush Miikan, Sheguiandah First Nation, regarding a gun complaint.
When police arrived, they found a 32-year-old man with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in danger of death.
The suspect fled the area before police arrived.
Police believe the victim was targeted and that it was an isolated incident.

The investigation is led by the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with the assistance of the UCCM Police, the Manitulin Provincial Police Crime Unit (OPP), the Northeast Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Judicial Identification Services of the OPP (FIS) and the Regional OPP Support Team (RST).
Police want to talk to anyone who has direct information about the incident.
