1 killed after a fire crash in Burnaby: RCMP

One person died after a fire in Burnaby, British Columbia, during the night.

The RCMP says officers were called to the Boundary Road site near Canada Way shortly before 12:45 p.m.

A statement said a black Jeep Cherokee was moving north on Boundary Road just before the crash. The driver, who was alone in the car, was found dead on the spot.

Police said witnesses tried to save the driver.

“We would like to thank the many witnesses who tried to save the driver and contacted the emergency services.” Alexa Hodgins wrote in the statement. “We understand that this type of event can be traumatic, but the actions of the witnesses are nothing but heroic.”

Boundary Road remained closed in both directions on Tuesday morning between 22nd Avenue and Canada Way.

Anyone who has seen the crash or who may have a video of Dashcam from Boundary Road between Grandview Highway and Kingsway Avenue between 12 and 1 a.m. is asked to call the RCMP.
