Airbnb will make the global ban on parties permanent Airbnb

Airbnb is banning parties at properties listed on the short-term rental site as permanent, the company said Tuesday.

The San Francisco-based Airbnb said it believed the ban worked to reduce violence, rule violations and health concerns, with reports of parties at the listed properties down 44 percent from a year earlier. More than 6,600 guests were removed last year for related violations, the company said.

Airbnb began fighting parties in 2019 after several people were killed during a shooting at a Halloween party at a house in Orinda, a suburb in the Gulf of California.

At the time, the company banned advertising parties at Airbnb’s social media sites, promised to expand the manual check of high-risk bookings, and said it would remove guests who did not comply with Airbnb’s rental property ban rules. .

In 2020, the company moved to temporarily ban home parties on its properties around the world in an attempt to comply with restrictions on gatherings imposed due to the coronavirus epidemic. The number of parties at Airbnb venues increased during the pandemic, Airbnb said, as people moved gatherings from bars and clubs to rental homes.

While making the ban permanent on Tuesday, Airbnb said it would lift the restriction on 16 people in rental properties. It says the restriction was caused by health concerns before Covid-19 vaccines became available.
