Ginny Thomas’ lawyer must testify before the panel on January 6

Ginny Thomas’ lawyer, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, said she saw no need for his client to testify before the House of Representatives selection committee investigating the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.

In an eight-page letter sent to the commission on Tuesday, Thomas’s lawyer, Mark Paolletta, wrote that his client was ready to testify before the commission to clear her name, but asked the commission to provide a better justification for her testimony. .

Paoleta’s letter to the committee was received and published by The Daily Caller.

“Before I can recommend meeting with you, I ask the Committee to provide a better justification as to why Mrs Thomas’ testimony is relevant to the legislative purpose of the Committee,” Paoleta wrote in the letter.

Paolletta noted her client’s text message chain with former President Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, writing that her views on the 2020 election were “personal”, adding that she was simply passing on information that was the first time has seen Meadows in their text messaging.

“The important thing is that Ms. Thomas has never claimed to have first-hand information about election fraud,” he added. “Rather, she said she was simply passing on information she had heard from others. She also explicitly condemned those who attacked the Capitol on January 6, asked some questions and expressed general disappointment. For example, she expressed concern for the future of our country under the leadership of President Biden.

Paoleta fired at the committee at its final point, writing about how the committee communicated to his client, her husband and another witness through the media, citing how committee members and other lawmakers publicly shared their disappointment with the election results.

“It is in this context that Ms Thomas expressed a desire to try to appear before the committee as a means of clearing her name. But on the basis of my understanding of the facts available to the Committee, I do not think that there is sufficient reason at the moment to speak to Mrs Thomas. Perhaps the Committee has more information to establish this basis, and I am ready to reconsider my recommendation if you provide this information. But no more, I’m sure you can appreciate my concern that Ms. Thomas seems to have been asked to come in to continue the baseless harassment she has been subjected to since January 6, ”Paolletta concluded.

Cheney retweeted an article arguing that Trump’s arguments for prosecuting him were growing stronger.

“I will also note that this was a particularly stressful time as the Thomas family was subjected to an avalanche of death threats and other abuses from the unprecedented attack on conservative Supreme Court judges and their families. Without further ado, I believe that if her name was Ginny Jones, the Committee would never even have fun talking to her.

The commission held its last public hearing of the month on Tuesday, Jan. 6, as a surprise testimony from former White House aide Cassidy Hutchison, who detailed Trump’s anger before and during the uprising, including an incident in which he threw himself into security, after he was not allowed to go to the Capitol when a crowd of his supporters was already storming the building.

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the building in an attempt to prevent Congress from verifying the results of the 2020 election.
