The student was transported to a hospital after being stabbed in front of a high school in Toronto

A Toronto School Board (TDSB) student was stabbed in front of his high school shortly after he was fired for Monday’s day.

Toronto police said earlier in the day that a male victim had been taken to hospital in a stable condition after being found with stab wounds near the Birchmount and Kingston roads. Toronto medical services said the victim was transported to a trauma center in serious condition.

Neither the police nor the school board then mentioned that a student was involved.

But in a letter sent to the parents Monday night, the director of the Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute confirmed that a student had been stabbed right in front of the school around 3:10 p.m.

“Police and emergency services were immediately contacted and the student was transported to the hospital for medical assistance,” principal Brian Hill said in a letter. “I am very grateful to announce that the student was not seriously injured in this incident. Our thoughts are with the student and his family on a speedy recovery. “

Hill said police did not block the school because the stabbing came after he was fired when most students and staff left the building.

Hill did not say which class the student was in or how old he was.

“This incident can be understandably frustrating for students who have seen or heard about what happened. Please rest assured that we will do our best to help, “Hill said.

He said social workers would be available at the school on Tuesday for all students or staff who want to talk about the incident.

He said the school had a number of resources to ensure a safe learning environment, adding that “we will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure that our school is safe for all”.

Toronto police said they believe three suspects were involved in the incident, but little other details have been released so far.
