Ruskin on anonymously rejecting Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony: “She has no motivation or interest in lying”

Representative Jamie Ruskin (D-Md.) Dismissed anonymous sources disputing the testimony of former White House senior Cassidy Hutchinson that former President Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential car and threw himself at an agent when he was informed. that he will not be able to join his supporters in the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Ruskin, a member of the House of Representatives election committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol, told MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Wednesday that Hutchinson, a former special aide to Trump’s White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, was “A completely credible witness.”

“She has no motivation or interest in lying in any way. What we have, on the other hand, are some anonymous rumors about the feelings of certain agents. You see, anyone who wants to testify can go out and testify under oath about what happened. “All we care about is the truth,” he added.

Ruskin added: “I expected Hutchinson, as a young woman telling the truth, to come under fire from anonymous sources, but you know, this is Washington for you.

The Maryland Democrat said Hutchinson had testified under oath to the entire country and that the country was able to “judge her behavior.”

According to Ruskin, no one disputes the “central material facts” of her testimony: that “Donald Trump and Mark Meadows were fully aware that there were armed men in the crowd” on January 6.

He added that Trump wanted to allow the crowd access to his speech that day in order to “inflate the power of this crowd, which he said the former president then” aimed like a rocket at the US Capitol. “

Ruskin stressed that Trump wanted to lead the march to the Capitol and that no one disputed the claim that he was angry when he was told he could not join them.

The congressman reiterated that while he fully expected Hutchinson to be attacked, she spoke not only with confidence but also with authenticity.

MSNBC’s Wlllie Geist also noted that anonymous sources would be used in “certain neighborhoods” as evidence that Hutchinson was not a credible witness if the quarrel story turned out to be untrue.

Geist asked Ruskin if he was “confident” that there would be additional evidence to support her story.

Ruskin replied that he had never heard anything that contradicted her testimony.

“This is in line with the many stories we have that the president was angry and outraged, that armed men were kept out of the crowd, and that he could not take part in the Mussolini-style march on the way to the Capitol. to be able to enter, probably [to] take the presidency. “

Hutchinson testified Tuesday that she learned of the episode from Tony Ornato, then deputy chief of staff to Trump, and that neither Ornato nor Robert Engel, the special agent in charge of the Secret Service on Jan. 6, disputed the description of the incident.

Several media outlets then reported that Engel and the driver were ready to testify that neither of them had been attacked by Trump and that the former president had not tried to take the wheel.

The secret services said on Tuesday that they would have more to say about the allegations and that they have been cooperating fully with the elected committee since its inception in the spring of 2021.
