This radio station broadcasts Loop’s Rage Against the Machine

KISS-FM’s Vancouver 104.9 radio station has been playing Rage Against the Machine’s song “Killing in the Name” for the past 10 hours after two favorite DJs on a morning show were fired on Tuesday.

Rolling Stone tuned in to the station on Wednesday afternoon and was still playing the 1992 song, stopping only to have two DJs mimic Zack de la Rocha’s grunt in the song – “A little lower… close enough,” he said. a female DJ to her partner. The memorable murmur comes before the sarcastic sound of the singer of “Fuck, I won’t do what you tell me”, which, of course, was excluded from the repetitions on the radio.

Several Twitter users noted that disc jockeys sometimes stopped the cycle to accept call requests for the same song. (The same thing happened when Rolling Stone turned on.) An NBC News reporter said a disc jockey went on the air to say, “You must be wondering what’s going on.”

The song was originally written by the group as a protest song against police brutality. “Now you do what you’re told,” de La Roche shouted in the preliminary chorus.

On Wednesday morning, Tom Morello retweeted a fan who pointed to the radio protest. “The pop radio station in Vancouver fired all its staff yesterday,” the tweet said. “Who’s in control this morning is playing Killing In The Name Of on a replay from 6 a.m. (now it’s 9:30). @KevinLimOnAir @Sonia_Sidhu It’s beautiful. ”

The two fired disc jockeys, Sonia Sidhu and Kevin Lim, shared statements on their social networks about the changes in the radio station.

“KISS is changing and unfortunately we have been informed that we will not be part of this new chapter. Although it comes with mixed emotions, we want to express a striking feeling: gratitude, ”Lim and Sidhu write. “We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who shared their mornings with us and invited us into their lives through the radio and our podcast. We have never taken you for granted. “
