One person was shot and killed and four others were injured, including three police officers, Saturday night in Haltom City, Texas, police said.
Haltom City Police Sergeant Rick Alexander said during a briefing that the three officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, as one officer was hit in the right hand, finger and leg, a second male officer was hit in both legs, and a third officer was hit in the upper thigh.
An elderly woman called 911 and police arrived at the residence, where officers returned fire during the incident, Alexander said. The elderly woman has non-life threatening injuries. An elderly female was found dead in the home, Alexander said.
The suspected shooter is described as a white man with dark hair who was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and had a military-style handgun by his side, police said. The relationship between the victims and the shooter is not yet known.
“The main concern is to ensure the safety of the scene, to try to get to our officers, to be able to get them out of harm’s way, while also trying to maintain custody of the suspect,” Alexander said, WFAA reported.
The Texas Rangers will take over the investigation.
