OnePlus 7 and 7T are finally getting OxygenOS 12 (Android 12) beta

what you should Know

  • OnePlus has announced the open beta version of OxygenOS 12 for the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro, as well as the Nord CE and 9RT.
  • For now, only the India regional version is available; global users are advised to wait.
  • These are the last OnePlus phones to get the update apart from the Nord N20 5G.
  • The update makes improvements to work-life balance, Canvas AOD, and dark mode, but there are some known bugs.

On the OnePlus community forums, OxygenOS Operations Manager Abdul B. announced on June 30 that the OxygenOS 12 beta is available for the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7T, their Pro versions, and the OnePlus Nord CE.

The OnePlus 9RT finally received the Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 beta last week. With this new batch of phones, OnePlus has officially made the beta available to almost every eligible Android 12 phone.

Unfortunately, only the Indian version of the software is currently available for download, not the global version. Abdul B. notes that global users “may introduce unforeseen bugs or potential problems” by downloading it, and advises you to “wait for other regional versions to be released.”

Even if you have the correct version of the phone, the posts note that there are “known issues” such as “inability to wake the screen by touching the screen” or that “data reset may fail” if you go back to OxygenOS 11.

If you own an Indian model and/or want to risk the bugs, we’ll link to each relevant community post here, where you’ll find download links for each respective Android 12 package: OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro (opens in new tab ) | OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro (opens in new tab) | OnePlus Nord CE (opens in new tab) | OnePlus 9RT (opens in new tab).

Now that these phones are in open beta, we expect them to get the final release in the next month or two. But it will vary depending on what errors appear, where you live, and (in the US) which carrier you use.

As far as we know, only one OxygenOS 12 eligible hasn’t received the beta yet: the new OnePlus Nord N20 5G, which launched this June with Android 11.

As for the new features OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T owners will get, OxygenOS 12 expands work-life balance for all users, adds Canvas AOD updates for your lock screen, improves battery life with Smart Battery Engine, and even lets you customize the dark mode color theme. OnePlus also recently put out a call for OnePlus 10 Pro owners to join the OxygenOS 13 closed beta. But before it can go all-in on the new OS, it needs to clear up unfinished software business with its older phones.

OnePlus 10 Pro

Fastest access to the latest software

The OnePlus 10 Pro gives you fantastic performance, a silky-smooth 120Hz QHD display, ridiculously fast 65W-80W wired charging with all-day battery life, and bloat-free software. OxygenOS 12 had its fair share of bugs, but the 10 Pro will be the first OnePlus phone to get the next operating system, which we suspect will make some major improvements.
