3 shot in Queens Village, including off-duty corrections officer, police say

QUEENS VILLAGE, Queens (WABC) — Three people were shot in Queens, including an off-duty corrections officer.

The off-duty officer observed a man open fire on a vehicle during what was believed to be a weekend holiday party at Jamaica Avenue and 214th Place in Queens Village shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday.

The officer then fired, hitting the shooter three times. A second gunman then fired at the off-duty corrections officer, hitting him once in the left leg.

Mayor Eric Adams said the shooters should never have been on the street.

The original shooter was taken to Jamaica Medical Center and the off-duty officer was taken to North Shore Manhasset University Hospital. Nor are the injuries believed to be life-threatening.

A third man was reportedly shot in the exchange of gunfire.

Police are checking the scene for clues.READ ALSO | Good Samaritan tries to save man seen jumping into Hudson River———-* More news from Queens* Send us a news tip* Download the abc7NY app for breaking news alerts * Follow us on YouTube
