Pro-choice protesters block the July 4th parade in Michigan’s capital

LANSING, Mich. – Pro-choice protesters gathered in Michigan’s capital on Monday and at one point blocked a Fourth of July parade in downtown Lansing.

According to WILX News 10, protesters gathered at the state capitol building at 10:30 a.m. and the Fourth of July parade began at 11 a.m.

One of the protest organizers Facebooked the Roe V Wade Lansing, MI protest event, saying the goal was not to disrupt the parade in any way.

Here is what the organizer of the protest wrote:

To clear up any confusion or misunderstandings, I would like to come here and make a statement.

WE WILL NOT INTERRUPT THE PARADE IN ANY WAY. We will not obstruct their route or stop the parade. We will not show any aggression or violence towards the parade OR towards the people there who support the parade OR towards any counter-protesters who may be there.

Several attendees mentioned noisemakers during the national anthem. Instead of doing that and interrupting the city’s planned event, I want to advise everyone to turn their backs on the flag.

Many of you have contacted about safety measures and what is being done. I can’t divulge everything right now, but we’ve taken all the necessary measures to ensure this is a safe, peaceful, non-violent event. I want you all to feel comfortable coming and that includes any children who will be attending with their parents.

I’m sure many of you have seen posts spreading misinformation about the event I’m running. I would like you to reiterate the fact that this will be PEACEFUL and we will absolutely NOT block or disrupt the parade planned for the city.

Law enforcement was notified of the event by outside sources and is fully aware that we will be holding this event on the capital lawn near the steps during the parade.

As always, thank you all for your outpouring of support and love during this difficult time. I couldn’t have done this without all of you!💞
