A woman set on fire in an attack on a bus at Kipling station has died, sources say

A woman set on fire on a Toronto transit bus has died, Toronto police and sources in contact with her family have confirmed to CBC News.

The attack happened around 12:25 pm on Friday, June 17, at the Kipling station, which is in the area of ​​Kipling Avenue and Dundas Street West.

Police said a man on the bus poured a liquid substance on the woman and set her on fire. He was arrested nearby and charged. Police said they suspect the attack was hate-motivated and random.

Paramedics from Toronto rushed the woman to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. At the time, police said she suffered second- and third-degree burns.

Tenzin Norbu, 33, is charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, common nuisance endangering the life and safety of the public, and mischief over $5,000, trespassing.

Police told CBC News on Tuesday night that after the victim’s death, the case was turned over to their homicide unit.

“We are aware and the homicide has been notified,” said Const. Alex Lee, a Toronto police spokesman, said in an email.
