BRACKETVILLE, Texas – Keeney County and several other counties have declared an “invasion” of migrants in Texas, and officials want Gov. Greg Abbott to acknowledge the problem and treat it as such.
The announcement was made during a news conference Tuesday in Brackettville, where multiple county judges and sheriffs announced their support for the declaration.
“(I) submit that we are under attack,” said Kinney County Judge Tully Shahan. “They’re coming to a neighborhood near you. America doesn’t know what’s going on here. We are here to try to change that.
According to Shahan, Article IV, Section 4 of the US Constitution and Article 4, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution permit such a declaration. They also want Abbott to acknowledge the existence of the invasion and “take the necessary actions to preserve and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Texas.”

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, who attended the news conference, said Arizona had taken similar steps that officials called for on Tuesday.
“You’re damn right, it’s an invasion. What else do you call it?” said Roy.
One by one, sheriffs and county judges told reporters similar stories about how migrants have caused all kinds of trouble in their communities. They mentioned that coyotes lead law enforcement in pursuits, destruction of property and other crimes.
“Coyotes are bringing people into our community,” Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin said. “It has to stop.”
Brackettville Mayor Eric Martinez said the migrants “try to blend into our schools … and then make their way elsewhere.”
Sheriffs and district judges blamed the Biden administration for the “open border” policy.
