Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West of waging a proxy war in Ukraine on Thursday and said the world should know the war is just beginning, nearly five months after the invasion began.
“Everyone should know that in general we have not even started anything serious yet,” Putin told parliamentary leaders.
“The tide of history is unstoppable and the collective West’s attempts to impose its version of global order are doomed to failure.
For the first time in weeks, Putin also said Russia was ready to sit down for peace talks with Ukraine, warning that “the longer they go on, the harder it will be for them to make a deal with us.”

The Russian army declared victory in Luhansk province earlier this week and is on the offensive in Donbas’s other province, Donetsk.
