A Colorado man suspected of two colds, including the 1989 murder of a young woman and the sexual assault of another more than three decades ago in the same apartment complex in Arizona, has been arrested, authorities said Tuesday.
Thomas Cox, 58, was detained in Colorado Springs and extradited to Arizona to face the deaths of 22-year-old Susan Amy Morse.

He was linked to the crimes after investigators used advanced technology for DNA and fingerprints.
“We are just looking for things. When there is new technology or new techniques on how to identify a suspect or examine evidence, we go into it and review the evidence over the years, and in this particular case it has been dramatic, ”said a sergeant at the Mesa Police Department. Chuck Trapani told the Fox subsidiary KSAZ-TV.
Morse was killed on October 16, 1989, and was found dead in her apartment in Mesa, Arizona, where she lives alone. She was later found to have died of suffocation.
In November 1990, Cox allegedly broke into the same apartment complex and sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman, stealing her money and a VCR. She survived, police said.
Cox was not initially identified as a suspect in either case, but investigators said his mother lived near Morse.

He is on $ 1 million bail and faces 16 charges, including first-degree murder, sexual assault, burglary and kidnapping.
