Comedian Andrew Schultz refused to bow down and censor his comedy special for Amazon, deciding to release it himself, and the decision has already paid off to the tune of over $1 million.
Schultz recently revealed that people at the streaming service “freaked out” when they saw the material he wanted to include in his upcoming comedy special. In the project, we are told jokes ranging from topics such as Ted Bundy, abortion and Michael Jackson. Schultz claims the honchos told him to remove the sensitive stuff or they wouldn’t be able to release it to users.

We spoke to sources close to Schultz, who told us he shopped around specifically for Amazon and Netflix — Amazon was the highest bidder — but then backed out after Schultz refused to remove the triggering content.

Now Schultz has decided to release the special fan edition himself through his website at $15 per ticket. We are told that in the first day alone he made $500,000 in sales and made over $1 million in less than a week.

Our sources say that with the way the tickets are selling, he will make more than his Amazon deal originally did.
We should note that he’s partnered with Moment House to sell his tickets — the same company behind Justin Bieber and Kygo’s shows — and we’re told he’s already broken sales records.
Of course, Schultz’s return comes after a lot of tension between customers and streamers like Netflix. You may recall that Dave Chappelle and Netflix took a lot of heat for the transphobic material in his recent special, The Closer.
