Scientists have identified the most effective sexual position for female orgasm

A new study has revealed the best sexual position for heterosexual women when it comes to achieving orgasm.

According to the private gynecological clinic New H Medical in New York, the most effective position is the missionary position, with a pillow placed under the woman’s pelvis.

The study was conducted using an ultrasound scanner, with researchers examining a pair of volunteers as they had sex in five popular positions for 10 minutes.

They then investigated which position was most successful in stimulating blood flow to the clitoris.

Dr. Kimberly Lowy, a physician researcher in New York who led the study, wrote: “The supposed benefits of various coital positions have been described in many journals, books and public forums.

“However, there is little scientific research evaluating the relationship between different coital positions and their ability to induce female orgasm.

“The aim was to compare clitoral blood flow before and after coitus in each of the five positions, after a standardized period of time.”

Dr. Lowy went on to mention the least effective position.

“The kneeling/rear entry position creates the least amount of direct contact with the clitoris and results in a slight increase in blood flow compared to face-to-face positions,” she added.

The new research follows another study that looked at the female orgasm and found that “moaning” is not part of it.

Researchers at the University of Ottawa investigated various bodily sensations that occur during a female orgasm, including “ragged/shallow breathing,” “increased blood pressure” and “hot flashes.”

However, they also identified some commonly misunderstood sensations that, despite popular belief, are not present.

“We recommend that the ‘moaning’ element be permanently removed from the measure,” said the study, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, adding that the female orgasm is a “poorly understood aspect of the female sexual response.”
