The MacBook Air, featuring Apple’s latest proprietary M2 processor, is available for pre-order from Friday. But as soon as the new laptop became available, it is already facing shipping delays.
Customers can pre-order the M2 MacBook Air through Apple’s website or the Apple Store app. However, those order options are already showing shipping estimates after the global retail release date of July 15, with many configurations pushed back to shipping until July 18 or later in the US, according to MacRumors.
That might not sound too bad, but MacRumors points out that some custom configurations may have shipping dates delayed beyond July. This has been an ongoing issue with the M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pro, which have faced months of shipping delays.
The M2 MacBook Air was announced in early June in a range of colors and hardware specifications, with octa-core and 10-core GPUs and Midnight, Starlight, Space Gray and Silver color options. Apple is expected to have the M2 MacBook Air standard configurations available in store when the laptop launches on July 15.
The length of the shipment delay may also depend on where you order from. Our location provides shipping dates between late July and mid-August for all M2 MacBook Air configurations. In different urban areas, there may be a longer waiting time for the new laptops.
Reports that surfaced in late May just before the M2 MacBook Air was unveiled at WWDC 2022 revealed that the M1 MacBook Air is among Apple’s easiest computers to buy at a time when several products have faced massive shipping delays due to supply chain issues. Products including the 2021 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, 2021 iMac, Apple Pro Display XDR, Mac Studio and Studio Display were also pushed back until August, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark German.
It is uncertain whether the M2 MacBook Air delivery delay is caused by consumer demand or supply chain issues.
The M2 MacBook Air starts at $1,199, while the M1 MacBook Air is still available and retails for $999.
